Cost is one of the biggest reasons people put off cosmetology school. The good news: financial aid is available to those who qualify, and more students may qualify than they realize.

If you've been dreaming about a career in beauty but aren't sure how you'd pay for school, you're not alone. Here's a clear look at your options, and how to get started.

Start with the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step for almost every student. It's free, takes about 30 minutes, and helps determine whether you qualify for federal grants, student loans and certain other types of assistance. Complete it at StudentAid.gov and enter OMNA Institute's school code, 011596, so your information comes to us. Complete it as early as you can, even before you've picked a start date.

Pell Grants: money you don't pay back

Because OMNA is nationally accredited, eligible students can receive Federal Pell Grants. Unlike loans, Pell Grants don't have to be repaid. Award amounts vary by student.

Federal student loans

If you need more help after grants, federal student loans are another option. Federal loans generally come with fixed interest rates and flexible repayment plans. Our team will help you understand what you'd be taking on before you decide.

Veterans benefits (GI Bill®)

OMNA accepts veterans education benefits through the GI Bill®. If you or a family member has served, you may be eligible for significant funding. Talk with our financial aid team to confirm coverage for your program.

Payment plans

If aid doesn't cover your full balance, OMNA offers payment plans built around your program length, so you can spread the cost into manageable payments.

Other funding to ask about

Depending on your situation, you may also qualify for state programs, workforce development funding, or employer tuition assistance. It's always worth asking.

A part-time option

OMNA's part-time cosmetology program gives you another way to fit school into your life, and some students continue working while they train. OMNA also offers scholarships for select start dates. Check our scholarships page for current opportunities.

Know your full cost up front

Your program cost includes tuition plus required items such as your kit, books and fees. Our admissions and financial aid teams will walk you through the complete published cost for your program, so you know exactly what to expect before you enroll.

These options apply to every program

The same options, including FAFSA, Pell Grants, GI Bill® benefits and payment plans, are available to those who qualify across all of OMNA's programs: Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, Master Esthetics, Massage Therapy and Behavioral Health Technology.

89% of OMNA students receive some form of financial aid. Don't count yourself out before you apply.
